About this course...

Simulation is the process of making a simplified model of a complex system to better predict or understand the behavior or the original system. This course provides students with an understanding of building design simulation methods, hands-on experience in using digital and physical simulation models, and exploration of the technologies, underlying principles, and potential applications of simulation tools in architecture through weekly lectures and hands-on simulation lab exercises. A series of analysis projects will link design decision-making to building performance outcomes.

 

 

Course Objectives

This course will lean heavily on digital modeling within the Rhinoceros environment, using Grasshopper tools to conduct analysis. Students are assumed to have a basic grasp of 3D modeling in Rhinoceros, basic understand of Grasshopper, and familiarity with Adobe programs such as Illustrator and Photoshop to complete assignments. No computer programming is required prior to this course.
